Other Home Audio Types

Before getting to know other home audio types, we should firstly know the meaning of home audio system. Home audio system includes appliances or electronic devices whose functions are to amplify sound and operate with the process related to amplifying, transmitting, or broadcasting the audio signal. There are also other types of equipment that relate to the video signal. In particular, the home audio systems operate by the principle of reproduction, recording, and sound processing. It consists of many types of equipment such as the microphones, the radio receivers, the audio/video receivers (AVR), the CD players, the audio recorders, and the mixer. The effect units or the signal processor, including the equalizer, the amplifiers, and the loudspeakers are all connected by numerous signal cables. The output sound we heard are the results from the components of the home audio systems.

The other types of home audio are as follows.

The Transistors

It is the popular one because it comes with various numbering systems to use. We can design the circuit in various ways. The quality of sound is excellent, with high amplification rate and low distortion. It is easy to repair and find the parts. It is commonly known and used in general. The advantages of the transistor are the ability to manage wide classes of the amplifiers, and easily increase the amplification rate with low price.

The MOSFETs

The metal-oxide-semiconductor-field-effect transistor (MOSFET, MOS-FET, or MOS FET) is by far the most common transistor in digital circuits, which becomes popular for a while. However, the popularity decreases because there simply aren’t many powerful MOSFETs available for amplifying audio. There are limited numbering systems to use. Thus, the designed circuit and the amplification increase rate are limited. The reparation is not widely known and it is hard to find the repair parts. In spite of that, it has many advantages over the transistor. The distortion rate is lower and the interfering signal affects the amplification only slightly. It is stable to work in the high-temperature condition. It is also highly sensitive to amplify the signal and can be connected to several amplifier units.

The ICs (Integrated Circuit)

It is becoming a popular amplifier. It is built by using transistors and MOSFETs in the IC power amplifier. The advantages of the IC are the higher efficiency of the amplifier circuit than the MOSFET because there are less connected circuits. The fewer circuits inside the IC amplifier decrease the distortion and it is possible to add other control functions to response the better sound frequency. However, the high acceleration rate is difficult to reach and the repair parts are not commonly available. Therefore, the IC is suitable to use with middle power amplifying that does not need high amplification and continuous usage.

In addition, there are also other types of home audio, which can be classified by usage like the following;

Input signal devices

Input signal devices can either be the source of the signal itself or receiving the signal from the radio. The examples are the turntable, the cassette player, the CD or DVD player, the radio, the TV, and the satellite receiver.

Signal adjustment devices

The functions are to amplify or adjust the signal, which depends on the usage. The examples are the pre-amplifier, the power amplifier, the equalizer, the mixer, and the surround sound processor.

Loudspeakers

The last unit of the audio system, which transmit the last output, is a loudspeaker.

The important aspect of other home audio system is the sound systems, which consist of two types;

Stereo system

It is the basic system inside the home audio devices. There are main speakers on the left and right side, which are separated. We often see them as computer speakers or portable speakers, which are the 2.0 channel, and the 2.1 channel.

Surround system

It is the more complex sound system than the stereo system. The directions of sound are not only from the left and right of the speakers but also from the front and back as well. Using the surround sound system will fully drive the performance in all direction from the source of the sound. However, the devices have to support the surround system.

In conclusion, the stereo system is simple in its structure as it normally comes with only a separated speaker pair on the left and right side. It is usually seen in a small audio device. On the other hand, the surround system has the surrounding audio depending on the number of speakers, which can be from four to more than seven speakers. By far, there is the system with more than 7.1 channels, which is usually used by the cinema. It also requires the source of the signal to support the surround system, which will fully drive the performance of the speakers in all dimension.
